Does sun protecting make-up really work?

It’s the Daily Mail, but the message is sound. Unless you’re applying your makeup thick enough (2 milligrams per square centimeter) – you’re not getting the protection on the label!

Is There a Difference between Moisturizers with SPF and Sunscreens?

Is There a Difference between Moisturizers with SPF and Sunscreens?

There isn’t! As long as you’re applying the proper amount, 2 mg/cm², you’ll get the SPF on the label.

This was the line at the North Texas Food Bank as This was the line at the North Texas Food Bank as 8,500 families lined up for food last Saturday. Some waited overnight, like 7 year old Ivan, who slept in the car with his stepfather. This pandemic has caused demand to surge 17 times higher than normal.

If you have anything to spare this Thanksgiving and holiday season, I urge you to give to a local food bank. I've chosen to donate to @truenorthaid, who focus on serving northern Indigenous communities.

To help locate food banks near you try: FeedingAmerica.org, FoodBanksCanada.ca, EuroFoodBank.org, LebaneseFoodBank.org
During a stroke, every minute counts! Fast treatme During a stroke, every minute counts! Fast treatment can lessen the brain damage that stroke can cause. The best stroke treatments are only available if the stroke is recognized and diagnosed within 3 hours of the first symptoms.⁣
⁣
Call 9-1-1 right away if you or someone else has any of these symptoms. Take note of the time when symptoms first appear.⁣
⁣
If you think someone may be having a stroke, act F.A.S.T. and do the following simple test:⁣
⁣
F—Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?⁣
⁣
A—Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?⁣
⁣
S—Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?⁣
⁣
T—Time: If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.⁣
⁣
By knowing the signs and symptoms of stroke, you can take quick action and perhaps save a life—maybe even your own.⁣
⁣
Common Signs of Stroke
⁣
Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.⁣
⁣
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.⁣
⁣
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.⁣
⁣
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.⁣
⁣
Sudden severe headache with no known cause.⁣
⁣
If your symptoms go away after a few minutes, you may have had a transient ischemic attack (TIA). Although brief, a TIA is a sign of a serious condition that will not go away without medical help.⁣
⁣
Unfortunately, because TIAs clear up, many people ignore them. But paying attention to a TIA can save your life. Tell your health care team about your symptoms right away.⁣

@chrisnikic, a 21-year-old from Maitland, late Sat @chrisnikic, a 21-year-old from Maitland, late Saturday became the first person with Down syndrome to finish an Ironman.

Nikic completed a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run within the required 17-hour time frame to take home the title of Ironman.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Nikic had his first surgery to repair two holes in his heart at 5 months old and attended seven schools from kindergarten to fifth grade, when his parents finally found a small private school that could better accommodate him.

But he persevered, swimming in the family pool as a child and at 16 competed in a spring triathlon. He lost two years of training due to repeated surgeries to reconstruct his ear canals. When started again, he could barely swim a single lap or run 100 yards without stopping.

“The doctors and experts said I couldn’t do anything,” Nikic said in the days leading up to the competition, which was held in Panama City. “So I said, ‘Doctor! Experts! You need to stop doing this to me. You’re wrong!’”

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam. Sam: I know. It's al Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.

Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness, and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?

Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo...and it's worth fighting for.

Chief Theresa Kachindamoto is known for her fierce Chief Theresa Kachindamoto is known for her fierce leadership in annulling over 1,500 child marriages and sending girls back to school in Dedza district, in the central region of Malawi.

Malawi has one of the world’s highest rates of child marriage, with half its girls married before the age of 18 and teen pregnancies contributing to 20-30% of maternal deaths in the country.

The practice of child marriage robs girls of their childhood and education opportunities, condemning them to a vicious cycle of poverty. In Malawi, only 45% of girls remain in school past the eighth grade.⁣
⁣
When asked about what inspires her to keep working on this issue, Chief Kachindamoto said, “When girls are educated, everything is possible.”⁣
